My very first Halloween mask was a flimsy Frankenstein’s Monster, purchased from a department store. Despite the fact that it was made out of green craft foam, it jumpstarted my love for disguise and performance—becoming a pivotal totem in my life. By wearing this thing, I could become something else. I could scare, surprise, or entertain. I was obsessed with it. The only instance that my love wavered for this mask was when anyone else wore it. I would get so freaked-out when I saw the eyes of someone I knew now transformed into an unrecognizable monster. So this piece is about ruining a good thing. Or maybe it’s also about being a hypocrite.
