Macho was a little plastic Luchador figure, who I carried in my front pocket, as I backpacked throughout interior Mexico with my parents (in 2017). You could say that he was my guardian superhero. By the end of the 3-month trip—as the cheap paint began to flake away from his body—I commemorated my masked friend in this personal take on an ex-voto. I gave thanks for “never having the misfortune of a scorpion in my bed”, though I feared it every night...and I’m sure wrestlers do too.
